Coho Salmon
40,000 Coho Salmon smolts were released in late March from our club site into the Alouette River. These fish were raised at the Alco hatchery in Maple Ridge. There are fish counters further up the river and the smolts have to be released below it so the natural migration counts will not be compromised. The surviving fish will return to the river in 2011/2012.
Slumach, PMPC's link to the past
On Easter Sunday I gave my PMPC card to Fred Braches, a local historian. When he looked at this website he realized that our site was on or near where Slumach (http://slumach.ca/) committed the murder for which he was hung.
I have often wondered about the history of the site, when was it a log dump? Who owned the logging company? If anyone wants to carry the torch, I will make sure that the information gets on our website. Have Fun
Testimonials
Our club started in 2007 and was met with enthusiasm. These are just a few of the comments made during the season.
Pitt Meadows Councilor:
"It is great to see the river being used more for education, recreation, and enjoyment."

Dragon Boat History
Dragon boat racing is the World's fastest growing paddle sport. It originated over 2000 years ago in ancient China as a "rain ceremony" to ensure plentiful crops. The dragon, a traditional symbol of water, is said to rule the rivers and seas and dominate the clouds and rains. The first races were mock battles staged to waken the dragons from hibernation. Today, dragon boat racing is a recreational and competitive sport enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. It combines tradition with modern day teamwork, enthusiasm, and strategy.
